UPCM’s MD-PhD students showcase first-authored papers at world's premier neuroscience conference in Washington, DC

2 MD-PhD students of UPCM and DOST scholars, Ms. Ajina Carampel and Mr. Joker Asis, presented two posters on inhalant addiction (toluene/rugby) at the Society for Neuroscience Conference (SFN) in Washington, DC last November 11-16, 2023.

They are joined by Dr. Rohani Cena-Navarro (Assistant Professor, NIH), Dr. Gregory Quirk (Supervising Scientist, UP Manila), Dr. Grace Gregorio (Collaborator from UP Diliman), and Ms. Jariel Bacar (PTS, UP Manila) at the world's premier neuroscience conference, raising the country’s flag as the only Philippine-based neuroscience laboratory attending the conference.

The laboratory had consultation meetings with the renowned addiction neuroscientists from the US NIH National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and the Medical University of South Carolina. They have also attended a dinner hosted by Deputy Ambassador Jaime Ramon Ascalon, Jr. of the Philippine Embassy in Washington, DC.

MD-PhD student Ms. Ajina Carampel received a travel grant scholarship from SFN and was invited for a meeting with funders from a foundation in London.
