The Virtual Museum:
A Glimpse of the Storied History of UPCM

AMBROSIO F. TANGCO, MD (UP REGENT 1962-1981)

Dr. Ambrosio F. Tangco was the first Section Head of the Section of Orthopedics, then still under the Department of Surgery of the Philippine General Hospital. With Dr. Jose V. Silao, Dr. Tangco laid the groundwork for the brisk development of physical facilities, faculty development, teaching, and training, and most importantly orthopedic care to patients. During his term, the section of orthopedics became an independent Department of Orthopedics in 1971. He also served as a former UP Regent. Outside of his work for the University, he was the first Vice President of the Philippine Orthopedic Association.  Dr. Tangco is also one of the founders of the Manila Doctors Hospital School of Nursing.
