Dr. Antonio G. Sison was the Dean of the UP College of Medicine from 1937 to 1951. His term included the Second World War, where the UPCM was the only functional unit of the UP system. The Philippine General Hospital also remained open and continued to provide service throughout the war. Dr. Sison’s deanship is referred to as the “Renaissance Period of Medicine in the Philippines”, where in spite of war, Dr. Sison still made it his mission to focus on developing and improving medical education in the College. A talented internist, he was known to personally invite colleagues to join him on regular and grand rounds in order to increase their exposure to cases and improve their critical thinking skills as physicians and educators as well. A lecture room on the 1st floor of Calderon Hall is named after Dr. A.G. Sison.
