Dr. Antonio Perlas was a professor of the College. He published a study that investigated the attrition rate in the UP College of Medicine from 1960 to 1965, comparing those of the UP entrants and non-UP entrants, along with Dr. Higino Laureta, and Dr. Juan C. Portes, Jr. Dr. Perlas was the first Chairman of the newly founded Department of Psychiatry of The Medical City, serving from 1971 to 1978, and again from 1980 to 1987.
