Dr. Clemente C. Gatmaitan Jr. is a renowned cardiologist who has contributed significantly to the growth of this specialty in the country. For his work, he has earned various distinctions such as Distinguished Fellow and Distinguished Service Award from the Philippine Heart Association (PHA). As one of the luminaries in cardiology, he has been among those first conferred with the Mariano M. Alimurung Award of Distinction. Furthermore, he has also served as a UP Regent as well as the president of the PHA in 1974-1975. Currently, there is an award named after him called the Dr. Clemente Gatmaitan Award for Most Outstanding Fellow in Research.
