The Virtual Museum:
A Glimpse of the Storied History of UPCM

DANIEL S. DELA PAZ, MD

Dr. Daniel Dela Paz is known as the Father of Pharmacology of the Philippines. Having studied and

trained abroad, he chose to return to the Philippines to become an instructor in Pharmacology in 1911.

He rose from the ranks and became the first Filipino chair of the UPCM Department of Pharmacology,

and also served as the longest from1920-1949. In 1935, he also concurrently assumed the position of

College Secretary. As a model pharmacologist, teacher and academician, there is an award named after

him called the Daniel S. Dela Paz Medal of Excellence in Pharmacology given to a graduating medical

student who has shown exemplary performance in the courses given by the department and embodies

the values of Dr. Dela Paz of love of country, excellence and leadership in medicine.
