The Virtual Museum:
A Glimpse of the Storied History of UPCM

RAMON L. ARCADIO, MD (UPCM DEAN 1997-2003)

Dr. Ramon L. Arcadio served as the Dean of the UP College of Medicine from 1997 to 2003. Dr. Arcadio is a pediatrician and passionate advocate of improving and expanding medical education in the country. During his term as Dean, changes to the medical education curriculum towards the goals of learner-centered and community-oriented learning were implemented. The groundwork and foundations were laid for the introduction of the organ system integrated (OSI) curriculum into the UP College of Medicine education system. The dual degree MD-PhD program was created and approved by the Board of Regents during this period. Additional academic departments and units were instituted during Dr. Arcadio’s term as Dean such as: the Department of Neurosciences, the Department of Emergency Medical Services, and the Medical Informatics and Community-oriented Medical Education Units.
