A Glimpse of the Storied History of UPCM

WILLIAM MUSGRAVE, MD (UPCM DEAN 1912-1916)

Dr. William Musgrave, an American expert in tropical diseases and a professor of clinical medicine and applied therapeutics, served as the Dean of the UP College of Medicine from 1912 to 1916 and as the director of the Philippine General Hospital from 1909 to 1917. He also served as the first chairman of the Department of Medicine. During his term, the development of the technical planning of the UP College of Medicine and a new hospital for the treatment of local endemic and tropical diseases were among his primary initiatives.
